Challenging Dives in the Adriatic

For suitably trained and experienced divers, the region around Rabac offers exceptional opportunities beyond traditional recreational diving. We guide technical dives to selected dive sites, planning each dive according to qualifications, experience and conditions.

TECHNICAL DIVING IN RABAC

Greater Depths. More Planning. New Dive Destinations.

Technical diving opens up opportunities beyond the limits of traditional recreational diving. Greater depths, longer dive times and more demanding dive sites require appropriate training, experience and careful planning.

Around Rabac and in the Kvarner Bay, we guide suitably qualified divers to selected dive sites. These include deep walls and rock formations, as well as remarkable shipwrecks that can only be fully explored through technical diving.

diving RABAC does not offer technical diving courses. Our services are designed for divers who already hold the required technical diving qualifications and wish to explore selected technical dive sites in the region with us.

TECHNICAL DIVES

Exploring Exceptional Dive Sites Together

We plan technical dives individually with the participating divers. Their training, personal experience, equipment and the intended dive site are all essential factors. Together, we coordinate the dive plan and the required breathing gases according to the specific requirements.

Individual Dive Planning

Depth, bottom time, decompression and gas planning are adapted to the dive site and the qualifications of the participating divers. The planned dive is discussed together in advance.

Your Own Technical Diving Equipment

For technical dives, divers bring their own complete technical diving equipment. This ensures that everyone dives with a familiar configuration and equipment suitable for the planned dive.

Breathing and Decompression Gases

Different gas mixtures are available for dive planning. At diving RABAC, we can fill Nitrox mixtures with oxygen concentrations above 21%, up to 100% oxygen, as well as Trimix. The required gases are coordinated according to the planned dive.

Selected Dive Sites

Depending on qualifications and planned diving depth, different dive sites are available. These include deep walls and rock formations, as well as shipwrecks that extend beyond traditional recreational diving limits.

SELECTED TECHNICAL DIVE SITES

Shipwrecks for Challenging Dives

Some of the most remarkable dive sites in our region extend well beyond traditional recreational diving limits. The Lina off the island of Cres and the Vis near Stijena offer suitably qualified technical divers two exceptional shipwrecks with completely different characteristics.

WRECK LINA · CRES

A Cargo Steamer with a History

The Lina was built in Great Britain in 1879. The iron cargo steamer operated throughout the Mediterranean and as far as Northern Europe. Among other cargo, the ship transported oil and wine from Apulia and carried coal from Cardiff on its return voyages.

On the night of 14 January 1914, the crew lost their bearings in dense fog while navigating the Vela Vrata Channel. In severe weather, the Lina ran aground near Cape Pečen on the island of Cres and sank shortly afterwards.

Ship type: Iron cargo steamer
Year built: 1879
Length: approx. 70 m
Beam: approx. 9 m
Sank: 14 January 1914
Location: Cape Pečen, island of Cres
Diving depth: approx. 25–55 m
Diving category: Recreational and technical diving

TECHNICAL DIVING WITH diving RABAC

Well Prepared for the Depths

Technical dives require careful planning and suitable equipment. Our services are therefore designed for experienced technical divers with the appropriate training who bring their own technical diving equipment.

Together, we plan each dive according to the dive site, the participants’ qualifications and the prevailing conditions. The required breathing gases can be prepared directly at our dive centre. In addition to Nitrox blends containing more than 21% oxygen, we can also fill oxygen up to 100% and Trimix.

Before the Dive

We discuss all technical dives together in advance. This includes the planned dive site, intended depth and dive time, breathing and decompression gases, and the individual dive plan.

Divers bring their own complete technical diving equipment and are responsible for using a suitable configuration they are familiar with.

On the Day of the Dive

Before entering the water, we review the dive plan together and discuss the dive site and the planned procedures. The dive is conducted according to the agreed plan and the actual conditions on site.

For technical wreck dives such as the Lina, the required decompression is carried out according to each diver’s individual dive plan.

WRECK VIS · STIJENA

A Wreck Exclusively for Technical Divers

The Vis lies very close to the Stijena dive site and is one of our most challenging dive destinations. The wreck begins at a depth of around 40 metres and extends down to approximately 58 metres.

Unlike the Lina, the Vis lies entirely beyond the limits of recreational diving. Diving this wreck is therefore reserved exclusively for experienced technical divers with the appropriate qualifications.

THE WRECK

A Cargo Ship with a History

The Vis was built in Glasgow in 1921 and was a cargo ship approximately 120 metres long. During the Second World War, the ship was taken over by the British and used, among other duties, in convoys to Africa.

In 1946, the Vis arrived in Rijeka carrying relief supplies for Yugoslavia. It was then scheduled to sail to Raša to load coal. During this voyage, the ship struck a mine off Plomin and sank.

Ship type: Cargo ship
Year built: 1921
Place of construction: Glasgow, Scotland
Length: approx. 120 m
Sank: 1946, after striking a mine
Location: Off Plomin / Brestova
Diving depth: approx. 40–58 m
Diving category: Technical diving only

REQUIREMENTS

For Experienced Technical Divers

Our technical dives are exclusively intended for divers with appropriate technical diving qualifications and experience for the planned dive. The available dive destinations depend on your qualifications, experience and planned diving configuration.

diving RABAC does not offer technical diving courses. We guide already qualified technical divers on appropriately planned dives in our region.

Training & Experience

Your technical diving qualifications must be appropriate for the planned dive, the intended depth and the gases used. We also require relevant practical experience in technical diving.

Your Own Equipment

Technical divers must bring their own complete equipment suitable for the planned dive. All dives are conducted using the diver’s own familiar equipment configuration.

Planning Together

Before the dive, we discuss the dive site, planned procedures and gas requirements together. This allows us to determine in advance whether the requested dive can be carried out safely under the given conditions.
